Public sector undertaking BSNL is now gearing up to beat JIO in the broadband space under the name Bharat Fiber. BSNL is urging cable traders to stay in the sector and prepare for broadband distribution for extra revenue. This is a strong setback for JIO, which just wants to get on with broadband. BSNL’s new plans assure cable operators that there is scope for business expansion. BSNL Fiber Premium and Fiber Ultra plan holders are also entitled to get Disney + Hotstar Premium membership for free.
BSNL is set to launch new broadband plans from October 1, 2020. They are priced at Rs 449, Rs 799 and Rs 999 and Rs 1,499 respectively. These plans, which are being offered on a 90-day promotional basis, are currently limited to a few cities, but are expected to be rolled out across the country soon depending on the response.
The Rs 449 plan, dubbed ‘Fiber Basic’, offers users 3300 GB of data at 30 Mbps. After exceeding the limit, its speed will be reduced to 2 Mbps. BSNL customers will additionally get the benefit of unlimited voice calling to any network in India.
Priced at Rs.799, the BSNL Fiber Value Plan offers customers 3300 GB of data at 100 Mbps speed. Once the limit is exceeded, its speed drops to 2 Mbps. It also offers customers the benefits of landline calling for free.
The Rs 999 premium plan offers stiff competition to the same priced JIO fiber plan. It offers users 3.3 TB of data at a speed of 200 Mbps. After exceeding the limit, the data speed decreases to 2 Mbps. In the JIO fiber, data is received only at a speed of 1 Mbps.
The Ultra Broadband Plan at Rs 1,499 offers data at speeds up to 300 Mbps. This is the highest premium offer from BSNL so far. It provides 4000 GB of data. After exceeding the limit, the speed decreases to 4 Mbps. It also offers unlimited calling benefits. Those who take BSNL Fiber Premium and Fiber Ultra plans will also get a free Disney + Hotstar Premium membership.
