The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has asked all the digital media publishers to furnish information relating their publication. The Ministry has drawn the attention of the stakeholders to the Information technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Codes) Rules 2021 dated 25th February, 2021.
The collection of information has become necessary for the government to regulate the unwanted and defamatory content. Since newspapers are registered under Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867 and private satellite channels get up-linking and downlinking permission from the MIB, they are asked to furnish information as in Appendix 1 for their digital platforms.
However, other digital news platforms are required to furnish information as in Appendix-2 while the OTTs have to furnish as per Appendix-3. The information has to be submitted within 15 days from the date of issue of the notification, thus fixing the last day as 9th June, 2021.
