LCOs benefit only on coming out of clutches of Corporate MSOs

Some of the Local Cable Operators (LCOs) are yet to digest the post-digitisation changes. But that is not a welcome attitude. Unless one welcomes the changes, there is no future. The Corporate MSOs are always waiting to make use of the innocence of the LCOs and chooses the path that is beneficial to them. It is high time the LCO choose his own way, upgrade to the latest technology and update.

The problems with the Corporate MSOs is that they are not to be seen and only their representative will be available even in difficult times. They will not be in a position to address the issues and ask the LCOs to wait for the decision to come from his Head Office. The LCO has no other go than to wait patiently.

Certain corporate MSOs have both Cable and DTH business and as such they benefit from both. Despite the fact that DTH is against Cable business, they continue to ride on both the verticals. Zee group has SITI Network and Dish TV while the Hinduja group has regular cable business beside HITS, Sun TV has Sun Direct and SCV (cable) . They don’t’ talk about the other competitive business.

Most of the Corporate MSOs always wait for a propsective buyer who can offer a good price. In fact, they dont confine themselves to selling their own connections, but selling the LCOs taking their feed also. getting each connections valued at Rs. 5000 to 8,000, they are able to sell all the connections. The LCO, who bought the cable, laid it ti reach every household is not  even awatre of the fact that he is sold to a corporate MSO. This conspiracy is to be arrested and the whole burden is now on the LCO to save himself.

Even the subscriber is used to new technology. At one point of time, there used to be a black and white TV and later they have shifted to color TV. LCD to LED to 4K is the order of changing these days. The LCO has to change in a similar fashion to meet the demands of the subscriber. Those who are using SD STBs should be made aware of the importance of a HD STB. When both the Subscriber and the LCO join hands and use the services from an Independent MSO, the business of the LCO will be in safe hands.

An independent MSO is always available to the LCO and any issue can be solved immediately. The Independent MSO will be ready to offer a part of the profits. While the Corporate MSO enjoys his position and shows his bossism, the dependent MSO prefers an LCO to be treated as his partner. Keeping this advantageous position with an Independent MSO, the LCOs have to take a decision useful to his future.
