MIB grants 6 TV licenses

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has recently granted several fresh satellite TV channel licenses to various broadcasters. The Ministry has green-lighted the launch of Aaj Tak Bangla, Times Now Navbharat,SVBC-3, SVBC-4 NHK World and NHK World Premium through fresh TV licenses.

The Ministry on 7th October 2021 granted TV Today Network Limited a fresh satellite TV license named ‘Aaj Tak Bangla’ in the ‘NEWS’ category. The license has uplinking and downlinking permission with authorization to broadcast in Bengali, English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil and Urdu. The channel will air from Intelsat-20.

The Ministry on 21st September 2021 granted Catvision Limited two fresh satellite TV license namely ‘NHK World Japan’ and ‘NHK World Premium’. The former is in the ‘NEWS’ category whereas the later is in the ‘NON-NEWS’ category. The licenses have downlinking permission with authorization to broadcast in English. The channels will air from Intelsat-20.

The Ministry on 27th September 2021 granted Sri Venketeshwara Bhakti Channel Private Limited two fresh satellite TV license namely Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel-3 (SVBC-3, Kannada) and Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel-4 (SVBC-4, Hindi) The duo have been granted in the NON-NEWS category with the former having permission to broadcast in Kannada whereas the later has the permission to broadcast in Hindi. The duo have uplinking and downlinking permission and will air from GSAT-30.MIB has last month on 24th September 2021 also granted a fresh satellite TV license to Bennett Coleman and Company Limited named ‘Times Now Navbharat’. The license has been granted in the ‘NEWS’ category with authorization to broadcast in English, Hindi and all remaining Indian scheduled languages. The license has uplinking and downlinking permission and will air from Intelsat-20.
