The television viewership ratings clearly show that the regional channels are attracting more viewers compared to the national channels. The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the only television audience measurement organization in India has confirmed this with the latest data for the week ending 27th August, 2021. As per the latest ratings, Sun TV (Tamil) is ranked the number one channel at the national level, pushing the Hindi channels aside. Telugu channel Star Maa continued its second position at the national level. While Tamil channel Star Vijay bagged the sixth place, Zee Group’s Telugu and Kannada Channels Zee Telugu and Zee Kannada got 8th and 9th ranks at the national level. Thus, 5 regional channels were able to find place in the top 10 channel list. An important point to ne noted here is that Star Group’s leader channel Star Plus is also behind Star Maa. Similarly Zee group’s Hindi channels failed to find place in the top 10 chart while its Telugu and Kannada channels are placed in the 8th and 9th positions.
