SC refuses to entertain Republic TV petition

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a writ petition filed by Republic Media Network and its chief Arnab Goswami, seeking to quash the summons issued by Mumbai Police in connection with the FIR lodged over the alleged manipulation of Television Rating Points (TRP).

The Apex Court asked the petitioners to approach the Bombay High Court instead. “We must have faith in our HCs. Without the intervention of the HC, it sends a bad message to the HC,” Justice DY Chadrachud said.”The High Courts have been functioning throughout the pandemic,” Justice Chandrachud added. Republic was expecting relief from the Supreme Court as officials from the media house are being regularly probed by Mumbai Police. Earlier
