Except for SUN TV, almost all the major General Entertainment channels of Sun Network spread over South India are losing viewership. Even Sun TV, though continues to be number on in Tamil Nadu is being challenged by Star Vijay which is inching ahead during the past one year. In Malayalam, Asianet continues its top rank while SUN Group’s Surya is ranked 4th. In Karnataka, udaya is in no.2 position while in the Telugu market, it is only in 4th place. Star and Zee group are increasing their viewership with their regional channels gaining ground.
Malayalam:
Asianet has been a consistent performer and a leader in the Malayalam category. The channel in week 37 had garnered a total of 276mn impressions which in week 38 had a rise of 8mn impressions to 284mn, next on the chart is Flowers TV with 124mn impressions and the 3rd spot is secured by Mazhavil Manorama with 92mn impressions. The last two spots consist of Surya TV and Zee Keralam with 78mn impressions and 72mn impressions respectively.
Tamil:
In week 38 of BARC India’s TV rating data, there are no changes in the pecking order in the TAMIL GEC category as usual with Sun TV leading the Tamil – All Platform Top 5 channels category with 840mn impressions, the channel in week 37 had garnered a total of 858mn impressions, which in week 38dropped by 18mn to 840mn. Star Vijay follows with 575mn impressions, and the last three spots are secured by Zee Tamil with 436mn impressions, KTV with 245mn impressions, and Star Vijay Super with 141mn impressions.
Telugu:
In the Telugu market, Star Maa leads the All Platform Top 5 channels category with 779mn impressions which grew by 2mn impressions in week 38 followed by ZEE Telugu with 529mn impressions. ETV Telugu secures the 3rd spot with 443mn impressions while the last two spots are secured by Gemini TV with 327mn impressions and Star Maa Movies with 224mn impressions.
Kannada:
With the undisputed leader Zee Kannada leading the Kannada GEC category with 408mn impressions followed by Star Suvarna on the 2nd spot with 247mn impressions. For the last 3 spots, we have UdayaTv with 242mn impressions, Colors Kannada with 242mn impressions, and Udaya Movies with 169mn impressions.
