TRAI releases consultation paper on Cable TV services

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has today issued the consultation paper on Market Structure/Competition in cable TV services. While giving a detailed consultation paper including the background, TRAI has asked the stakeholders to respond by 22nd November, 2021. Counter comments, if any may be submitted by 6th December, the TRAI press release said.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has sought recommendations from TRAI on the issues related to monopoly/market dominance in cable television services, way back in 2012 and the TRAI has responded accordingly. However, in view of passage of considerable time, MOB has once again asked TRAI to send its recommendations keeping in view the lastest developments in the backdrop of digitization and the expansion of the media and entertainment industry where new technologies like HITS and IPTV have entered in distribution.
