Former BARC India CEO Partho Dasgupta has been admitted to JJ Hospital after his sugar level fell extremely low. He is in the ICU now. The development comes after the Mumbai police released over 500 pages of WhatsApp messages purportedly between Dasgupta and Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, in which they allegedly discussed confidential TRP data and intervention from political leadership in industry matters
Dasgupta, 55, a diabetic, was rushed to the state-run J J Hospital here from the Taloja Central Prison in Navi Mumbai around mid-night after his blood sugar levels shot up, a prison official said. He was admitted to the ICU and was on oxygen support, the official said.
Dasgupta has been in judicial custody after he was denied bail in the TRP manipulation case. Police has claimed the former BARC chief was the mastermind behind the TRP scam. He has been charged for conniving with Goswami in manipulating viewership ratings for wrongful gains.
Even as Mumbai police claim that he has admitted that he was bribed by Republic TV Chief Mr, Arnab Goswami, Dasgupta’s daughter alleged that her father was tortured in prison, and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others to ‘save his life’.
Dasgupta, former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) was arrested in the alleged TRP rigging scam by crime branch of the Mumbai Police on December 24 last year. A Mumbai court had earlier this month rejected his bail plea, stating that he appeared to have played a vital role in the scam to rig TRP as per the police’s case.
